چکیده

PURPOSE To propose a method to reduce the slab boundary artifacts in three-dimensional multislab diffusion MRI. METHODS Bloch simulation is used to investigate the effects of multiple factors on slab boundary artifacts, including characterization of residual errors on diffusion quantification. A nonlinear inversion method is proposed to simultaneously estimate the slab profile and the underlying (corrected) image. RESULTS Correction results of numerical phantom and in vivo data demonstrate that the method can effectively remove slab boundary artifacts for diffusion data. Notably, the nonlinear inversion is also successful at short TR, a regimen where previously proposed methods (slab profile encoding and weighted average) retain residual artifacts in both diffusion-weighted images and diffusion metrics (mean diffusion coefficient and fractional anisotropy). CONCLUSION The nonlinear inversion for removing slab boundary artifacts provides improvements over existing methods, particularly at the short TRs required to maximize SNR efficiency. High-resolution diffusion MRI at 7T using a three-dimensional multi-slab acquisition

High-resolution diffusion MRI can provide the ability to resolve small brain structures, enabling investigations of detailed white matter architecture. A major challenge for in vivo high-resolution diffusion MRI is the low signal-to-noise ratio. In this work, we combine two highly compatible methods, ultra-high field and three-dimensional multi-slab acquisition to improve the SNR of high-resolu...

High Resolution 3D Multi-slab Multi-shot Spin Echo Diffusion-Weighted Imaging

Introduction: The need to detect small brain lesions and to reduce partial volume effects in fiber tractography has made high resolution isotropic 3D diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) a research focus in diffusion acquisition methodology [1-4]. To achieve reasonable scan time, most of the proposed 3D DWI methods used steady-state free precession (SSFP) acquisition [1-3] which has a complicated d...

Non-contrast-enhanced pulmonary vein MRI with a spatially selective slab inversion preparation sequence.

We propose a non-contrast-enhanced, three-dimensional, free-breathing, electrocardiogram-gated, gradient recalled echo sequence with a slab-selective inversion for pulmonary vein (PV) MRI. A sagittal inversion slab was applied prior to data acquisition to suppress structures adjacent to the left atrium (LA) and PVs, thereby improving the conspicuity of the PV and LA. Compared with other MR angi...

3D Double Inversion Recovery for High Resolution Gray Matter Brain Imaging

Gray matter (GM) images with high spatial resolution are obtained at 1.5T with a new multislab 3D double inversion recovery sequence that selectively suppresses cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and white matter (WM). Images show a clear delineation of GM from WM and CSF, also for small GM structures such as the entorhinal cortex, of importance in Alzheimer's disease. Feasibility is demonstrated for th...

Sliding Interleaved Projection Reconstruction Acquisition (SLIPR)

SLIPR was implemented with modifications to a multislab 3D time-of-flight MRA pulse sequence. K-space is sampled radially over a small set of projection angles for each slab position, with complete Fourier encoding for the slice encoding direction. The spacing between adjacent slabs is equivalent to one slice thickness. For uniform coverage, the projection angles for each slab position are inte...
